Ben Roethlisberger Got What Was Coming to Him

Big BenIf you have been living under a rock for the last couple of months, you have probably heard about the Ben Roethlisberger situation. But in case you haven’t, here are the Cliff’s Notes:

While out at a bar in Millidgeville, GA, Big Ben was accused of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old college student, his second such accusation in two years. In case you want to read the full police report, The Smoking Gun has it here (thanks to The Smoking Gun).

Last year, whenAndrea McNulty brought up her civil suit in Reno, Nev., there were many things that just didn’t seem right about it. Most people stood by the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback as he went though the allegations and what ended up being a pretty rough season.

A year later, all of those poeple have been thanked for their belief with another accusation, one whose details are vulgar and makes one look at Roethlisberger and wonder what he was thinking. Ever since the incident was revealed to the public back in March, there have been many opinions on what should be done with Roethlisberger.

The one that everyone could agree on was a suspension.

Today, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell dished out a six-game suspension on the Steelers QB; it could be shortened to four games with successful completion of a behavioral evaluation.

This is a perfect sentence for Roethlisberger. He has shamed not only himself but has brought a black eye to the National Football League and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Some would argue that this is too harsh a sentence for Roethlisberger, but this is a second incident for Ben and one where he was clearly guilty of something, despite the intoxicated state of his accuser.

Roethlisberger has proven himself to be a man who makes poor decisions. He needs to pay for those decisions now. A six-game suspension from the NFL is perfect to teach the quarterback a lesson. Plus there are rumors that he may be traded by the Pittsburgh Steelers, which would show just how fed up with quarterback and reinforce their new “Zero Tolerance” policy.

Whatever the Steelers end up deciding to do with Roethlisberger, I commend the commissioner for his decision to suspend him.
